The 'Okay, Now it Works' Patch โจ
UHHHHHHHHHHH.....
Okay, so remember that big Godot port announcement a bit ago? Exciting times! Buuuut... the initial launch was a little rough around the edges ๐ฌ. Like, really rough. The first build... well, it didn't exactly work work when you downloaded it.
Turns out, the way I was loading things like paddles, balls, and music? Yeah, the game did not like that when I tried to package it up. Resources went missing, things were breaking, it was a mess. Oops.
BUT your girl has been LEARNING and putting in the WORK! This patch is all about fixing those foundations, squashing bugs, and making the Godot version actually playable and stable.
Slaying (For Real This Time) The Fixes!
- IT EXPORTS! (The Big One!): You should now be able to actually play this version without core stuff like paddles, balls, or music mysteriously being absent! I had to totally rework how the game finds its assets (shoutout to @export arrays instead of my janky old way). This was the main gremlin causing chaos, and hopefully, it's banished! ๐
- Saving: Remember how I said saving worked? Well, now it ACTUALLY does! Your fabulous Player Name, your carefully chosen Options (Volume, Resolution, Fullscreen, Point Limit!), and those hard-earned Achievement statuses should properly save to your AppData folder and load back up when you restart the game. For real for real this time.
- Achievements Behaving: Speaking of achievements, they should also be tracking and displaying correctly now. No more unlocking something and having the menu lie to your face! Get that Pong God status!
- Functional Options: The Options menu is fully hooked up and working as intended. Sliders slide, options stick, and the music volume slider bug is GONE. Adjust away!
Glamming it Up: Polish & Tunes!
- Menu Makeover: Did some visual tweaking here and there. Spaced out the buttons on the Main Menu a bit more, gave the logo a size boost โ just making things breathe a little better.
- NEW MUSIC + Compression: Added like, 11 NEW TRACKS to the background music rotation! Also, your girl remembered about audio compression โ all music is now in .OGG format instead of huge .WAV files. Gotta save that disk space!
Bye Felicia: What's Gone
- Remember that non-functional 'Light Mode' button from the Scratch days that snuck into the Options mockup? Yeah, she's gone. Let's be honest, she wasn't serving. We're sticking with the darkness.
The Tea for Next Time โ:
Okay, so now that the game is actually stable (fingers crossed!), what's next on the Trello board and the agenda?
- PAUSE MENU! Because sometimes you need a snack break mid-slay.
- SOUND EFFECTS! Finally add sounds for paddle hits, scoring, bounces, UI clicks โ make it sound as good as it looks! (Marked as 0/7 on Trello, time to change that!)
- More Paddles & BALLS! Adding dedicated Pride Balls and maybe more Meme Paddles to the random pool is high on the list!
- Fancier Background? Might look into making that parallax background even more dynamic.
- Local Multiplayer!? Still on the backlog, but a major goal!
- Full Controller UI Navigation: Finish the job so you can ditch the mouse entirely.
- More Achievements? Always room for more ways to prove your Pong prowess!
This port was a huge leap, and ironing out the kinks was definitely an experience. Go check out the updated version, download it, and lemme know if it actually works this time! ๐
